Does it feel like you’re being controlled by emotions and thoughts you can’t make sense of?

At North Texas Family Therapy, we’re ready to sit with you in the weight of these feelings. Individual therapy can be a non-judgmental and supportive space for you, where we welcome you with compassion and understanding. You’ll work with a dedicated therapist who is there to help you heal in the way that feels best for you. Sessions can, should, and will look different for everyone, as we build out customized treatment plans and goals specific to you and your situation! Your therapist will use evidence-based approaches to help you delve deeper into the patterns holding you back, process the challenges you are facing, and work with you to build a toolbox of skills that can help you move forward.

Oftentimes, individuals who enter the therapy room for the first time feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, disconnected, and unsure. We are here to hold the hope for you until you feel ready to take it for yourself. Healing is possible, and we want to be there to walk the journey with you as you create a life that feels peaceful and whole.

Have you been feeling stuck in a seemingly never-ending cycle of self-doubt, overwhelm, sadness, or fear? Maybe you’re feeling stuck and unable to move forward no matter what you try. Maybe it feels too difficult to express your wants and needs in relationships, causing you to feel unseen, unheard or misunderstood. You could also be navigating the journey of grief, healing from an experience of trauma, or dealing with unrelenting stress that leaves you feeling exhausted and disconnected.

It makes sense if it’s been hard for you to cope between the heaviness in your mind, the confusion from the different emotions you’re feeling, and the unsteadiness from the life changes you’ve been experiencing. It’s understandable if you’ve been withdrawing from the people in your life, experiencing more anger or irritability, or feeling doubtful of your capability to make change in the way you want. And still, somewhere within yourself, you know that you want relief from the pressure you’re under and are desperate to find a clear path towards a more balanced and fulfilling life.

You’re not alone in this.

Looking for a therapist can feel uncomfortable, weird, and maybe even shameful or embarrassing, so let us remind you that you are not alone in your experience. We are all wired for connection, and reaching out for support only makes you human.

At North Texas Family Therapy, we have a team of highly trained therapists who offer support for a variety of mental health concerns, ranging from anxiety and depression, to relationship stress and disordered eating habits, as well as family or communication struggles and trauma - just to name a few. Sometimes it can be intimidating to start therapy when it feels hard to identify the specific issue or struggle. No matter where you are on your journey, we can help offer support by working to get to the root of your concerns. Let’s join together to address the ways your life is being impacted. Mental health struggles can show up as overwhelm, racing thoughts, worry, distress, self-doubt, or a weight on your chest that makes it hard to keep going. You might be feeling lost, disconnected, or unsure of how to take a step forward.

Clients can often experience shame or self-judgment about reaching out for support; wondering “why can’t I figure this out on my own?” We want to remind you that your struggle is valid and is not a sign of weakness. In fact, research shows that nearly one in five adults in the U.S. experiences mental health challenges in a given year¹. You are not the only one who is feeling like their mental health is impacting their life. Whether it be lower energy levels, relationship issues, difficulty focusing, low self-worth, or simply not feeling like yourself, reaching out for support is a sign of strength, not failure.

Therapy can open a door towards change. With support, you can begin to work on untangling messy thought patterns, finding new ways to cope, and feeling more connected to your sense of self. Healing might take time, and you don’t have to do it by yourself… help and hope are within reach.

Therapy can be the space of relief and support that you’ve been looking for.

Therapy with us will be…

  • When you’re dealing with overwhelm, life feeling chaotic, negative thought patterns, traumatic memories, or difficulty with communication, it can feel like you’re stuck in a cycle that you can’t get out of. In those moments, therapy can be a helpful resource. Individual counseling at NTFT offers you a safe and supportive environment where you aren’t the one holding it all. With someone to help carry the load, change may feel more possible.

  • In our practice, we tailor your experience to you. Each individual is unique, so based on your individual needs, we will provide an evidence-based approach for your healing journey. Our clinicians may use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Trauma- Focused CBT, to challenge unhelpful thoughts, EMDR, Brainspotting, or somatic approaches to work through trauma, and attachment-based or Emotionally Focused Therapy to support your relationships. We don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach. Here, we want to implement strategies that work for you, with you, meet you where you’re at, and help guide you towards healing.

Sessions will look different for each individual who comes through the door. Therapy could involve processing old wounds, discussing present-day challenges, working towards communication goals, exploring boundaries, or a host of other concerns. While individual therapy at NTFT is tailored to you, some things will always remain the same. Your therapist is there to support the work you want to do and help you meet the goals you have set together. You will always be in the driver’s seat, and the pace we go at will be guided by what you need and want. We believe that healing should be slow and intentional, and never feel rushed or forced.

  • Our therapists are trained in many different modalities that are used together with a compassionate and client-centered focus to help you not only cope with the hurts you are experiencing now, but also make moves towards lasting change. Everyone’s journey will be unique to them and their experience, but our hope is always to support you in bringing about real and lasting change.

  • You don’t have to navigate this all on your own. The stressors you have that are weighing you down don’t have to be carried just by you. We are committed to connecting you with a therapist that is the right fit. And with the proper tools, guidance, and support, we fully trust that you can find relief, build resilience, and step into a life that feels more fulfilling.

FAQs

“I’m nervous to start therapy. What would I even talk about?!”

That’s completely okay! You’re in the right spot. Many clients start therapy without being sure of where they want to begin. The important thing is that you know you want to start somewhere. We fully understand that walking into session for the first time can be scary, but the good news is that your therapist is there to guide you through the process. You don’t have to have it all decided before you start– we can figure it out together.

Before you meet your therapist, you will complete a series of questionnaires and assessments where you can be as detailed, or not, as you want. The first couple of sessions will be full of history taking and getting to know one another, then establishing goals and a treatment plan that makes sense for you.

“How long will this take? I don’t have all the time in the world to talk about my feelings.”

We know this answer might not be very satisfying, but because every individual is coming in with their own unique experiences, they will also be on their own individual timeline. What we can say is that your therapist will work with you to find a pace that fits your life. We strongly believe that therapy is an investment in you, and we are here to accommodate you as best as we can. For those who have experienced significant persistent trauma the therapeutic process is typically longer than someone wanting to come in to gain coping strategies for reducing anxiety or learning better communication skills.

“I’m scared of what will happen if I open up about my past.”

You’re definitely not alone in this. When something has been hidden for so long, shining a light on it can be really intimidating. We’re here to remind you that you are in control of what you share and when you share it. Our team of compassionate clinicians will never force or pressure you to talk about anything you are not ready or able to discuss or process. Our goal is to create a safe space where we can offer you support. You won’t be approaching this by yourself. We’re here to walk with you as you journey forward.
